Digitalization – a necessity for further improvement

Costs and uncertainty in resource estimates need to be further reduced to ensure long-term, profitable operations and a competitive edge on the Norwegian continental shelf. Digitalization is defined as the process of implementing digital technologies to increase commercial value by changing business and/or operational models, and is considered a vital tool. Management in both oil companies and the supplier industry have a strong focus on digitalization, which has resulted in substantial efforts and several pilot projects. Making full use of digitalization demands comprehensive changes in business and/or operational models and is therefore a demanding process.
